Prince Harry’s new girlfriend Meghan Markle has revealed her holiday planning tips for the festive season. Ms Markle, who has been in a relationship with the prince since this summer posted the tips on her website after arriving back in Canada following a pre-Christmas trip to London to see her beau.
She suggests menu planning ahead, and placing orders for items which cannot be made at home. Ms Markle goes on to tell people not to be afraid to ask for help, suggesting that if relatives have a great recipe, they will be only too willing to make it to contribute to a festive meal.
While there is a lot of work involved in making a Christmas meal, Ms Markle points out that it may be wise to make the main dishes, buying in the side dishes. In terms of menu planning Prince Harry’s girlfriend says it is vital to know your audience and what their likes and dislikes are.
The three to one rule
Another tip is to employ the three to one rule, where you make three things ahead of time, and one thing on the day. This makes entertaining much less stressful, as well ensuring that you can spend more time with your guests and less time in the kitchen.
It follows earlier guidance about reducing food waste, with a suggestion to use leftover turkey for sandwiches.
Ms Markle adds that the guidelines are designed to make festive celebrations this year the best, and most stress free, ever. Her tips follow those of Kate Middleton’s sister Pippa, who has released her own set of party planning advice, which was criticised for being glaringly obvious. Ms Middleton’s party planning book included such titbits as serving seasonal vegetables and remembering to put a pitcher of water on the table, as well as glasses.
