Mass murderer Charles Manson is rushed from prison to hospital in California

Serial killer Charles Manson has been taken out of prison and taken to hospital. Manson, who is now 82, was taken to hospital from Corcoran State Prison in California. It is understood that he is now being treated at a hospital in Bakersfield, which is an hour’s drive away from the jail, although it is not known whether he is ill or injured.

Manson was jailed more than four decades ago for the infamous Manson family murders back in 1969. He brutally killed Sharon Tate, the actress wife of director Roman Polanski. She was eight and a half months pregnant at the time. He had ordered his family members to kill Ms Tate and three of her friends at her plush home above Beverly Hills. The fifth victim that night was Stephen Parent, who had gone to the home to see if the caretaker William Garreston wanted to buy a clock radio. He ended up staying for a beer at the guest house and was shot at the gates as he tried to leave.

Horrific violence

The next night, the Manson family murdered entrepreneurs Leno and Rosemary La Bianca at their house in Los Angeles. The violence was so horrific that Manson and his cult-like family have become infamous. Manson blamed society for his actions.

In total, Manson and his quasi-commune murdered nine people at four locations over a five week period. He was found guilty of conspiracy to commit the murders of seven people in 1971. He is currently serving nine concurrent life sentences.

Before his “family” began to form, Manson was an unemployed former jail bird, who had spent half of his life in prisons for a variety of offences. Before ordering the murders to be carries out, he was a singer-songwriter floating on the fringes of the Los Angeles music scene.
