Girl aged 8 left fighting for life after being stabbed by woman who thought she was possessed

An eight year old girl has been left in a critical condition after allegedy being knifed by a woman who thought the youngster was possessed by the spirit of Jesus Christ.

The child is understood to have been asleep in her bed in a £1m five-bed townhouse in the plush area of Stockbridge in Edinburgh, Scotland when she was stabbed in her heart. She was rushed to hospital where she is understood to be in a critical condition. Currently, it is not clear who the woman was or whether she was known to the child.

According to sources, the woman believed that the girl was possessed by Jesus. The source said that the house was covered with blood in the horrific incident and that the woman said to be involved had also been injured in some way. She was also taken to hospital for treatment, although it is not clear what her condition is.

Forensic investigations

Detectives and specialist forensic teams in white suits could be seen going into the Danube Street area of Edinburgh while shocked neighbours told reporters that officers had been at the house all night. One neighbour said that the woman had moved into the home this summer and totally gutted out the property, carrying out extensive rennovations. The neighbour said she believed the woman was a famous interior designer who carried out work for top hotels. She added: “The police have not told us anything and it has been quite scary not knowing.”

Another resident said they would often see the woman said to be involved, and a little girl, walking a dog in the local area, while a further neighbour spoke of their shock that something so terrible had happened in such a friendly community.

Police have confirmed that a 48-year-old woman has been reported to the procurator fiscal in relation to the alleged stabbing.
