Roma legend, Francesco Totti, had tears in his eyes as he made his final appearance for Roma after a 25-year spell at the club.
Francesco Totti’s 25-year spell at the club led to 307 goals in just 786 games for Roma, which is the only club that he featured for all through his playing career.
His final game came against Genoa, which Roma won to secure their UEFA Champions League group stage spot next season
Totti in an emotional voice read a letter that he wrote to the fans said: ” I am scared, I don’t know what the future will bring, but I’m hopeful and grateful for what has happened in my career thus far”.
“It’s like having a great dream and your mum wakes you up because of school. You want to stay in the dream world and sleep as much as you can.”
“This time around, it’s actually a reality and I can’t go back to sleep or live the dream”
Francesco Totti was awarded a framed picture with his number 20 shirt and had his wife and kids on the field with him as he gave his speech.
He is also expected to take on a role with the club but there are reports that he could play somewhere else before finally hanging his booth with interest from China and the United States.
Francesco Totti is one of the few modern-day players who has stuck with one club all their lives. Other players in this category include Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes of Manchester United. Paolo Maldini and Alessandro Nesta of Ac Milan. He didn’t win any European trophy for the club but enjoyed a successful domestic career with Roma and he will remain for the icon all through its history.
