Arsenal’s 3-1 victory over Everton in the final game of the EPL season could not secure a Champions League spot for the regulars and also ended in a couple of injuries for the team ahead of their FA cup final.
A couple of players including Alexis Sanchez, Gabriel Paulista could miss out on the clash against Chelsea in the FA cup final in Wembley after picking up knocks during the game.
Arsenal started the game on a good note with an early opener by Hector Bellerin. But their joy was short-lived as Koscielny was sent off after a reckless challenge of Everton’s Enner Valencia. Alexis Sanchez gave the Gunners another reason to celebrate with the second goal of the game. But again their celebration was short lived as defender Gabriel Paulista got injured after falling awkwardly and had to be stretched out of the game.
Arsenal’s highest goal scorer this season, Alexis Sanchez, further piled on their misery as he had to be substituted in the second half after picking up an injury.
Everton cut the lead down to 1 through a penalty by Romelu Lukaku ( his 25th goal of the season). Aaron Ramsey rounded off the scoring with a superb goal in the 91st minute of the game.
Champions League Slip Away
In spite of their victory in the game, Liverpool 3-0 win over Middlesbrough means the Gunners will miss out on UEFA Champions League football for the first in 21 years. This could affect the future of their manager, Arsene Wenger and star players like Mezut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez as they are still stalling on signing a new contract at the club.
Arsenal’s failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League got the attention of the social media world as the twitter account of Bayern Munich and UEFA Europa League took turns in throwing funny shades at the club.
