A 12 year old girl named Helina Kotlarova, 12, was crossing the road while holdings hands with her younger cousin, Zaneta Krokova, 11, when a car had hit them on Ashton Road, Oldham, Greater Manchester, resulting in the death of Helina.
The roadkill incident occurred on the night of New Year’s Eve, and as of now five men from ages of 23, 59, 48, 38, and 18 have been taken into custody by the authorities over suspicion for the 12 year old girl’s death due to reckless driving.
The two young girls had apparently just left a store around their homes right before they were struck by a vehicle that was said to be a black VW Golf around 7 in the evening.
Too Quick and Too Late
The medical teams had pronounced young Helina dead at the scene as her parents Sylva and Robert rushed to her aid upon knowledge of the incident.
Zaneta was hospitalized due to critical injuries she had received. Helina’s family which consists of seven daughters and one brother endured their New Year’s Day with utter tragic mourning over the incident. The Kotlarova family had moved from the Czech Republic to the UK about 8 years ago.
Sylva and Robert stayed in their kitchen crying all night on New Year’s Eve, along with the rest of the members of their family.
Helina’s older sister Sylva, 19, recalled how her and her family had all raced to the scene upon the car collision, which was just merely 100 yards away from their home. The authorities have requested from the residents to come forth with any information they have for those who witnessed a black or dark colored Peugeot 807 vehicle at the time of the incident.
The GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, Sergeant Lee Westhead announced that they are currently conducting the investigation into the matter and vow to charge those responsible, and added that the families of both young girls are currently being assisted by their expert trained personnel.
