Memorial Day Services

Area Legion posts will be holding Memorial Day services on Monday, May 30.

Members of firing squads and color guards will be traveling to various cemeteries to honor those who have served the country through military services.

Byron

The Town of Byron veterans will be honored at the annual Memorial Day tribute scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at the Byron Town Hall, located at N3097 Hwy 175. The morning program will also feature the unveiling of 20 names added to the Veterans Memorial, a roll call of veterans buried in the Town of Byron cemeteries, a firing squad salute and an open house exhibit from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Firing squads from Lomira’s Legion Post 347 and Oakfield’s Post 8092 will assemble at the Town of Byron Veterans Memorial for the event. Town of Byron veterans in attendance at the open house will receive certificates of appreciation and commemorative Veterans Memorial pins.

Horicon

The Legion Honor Guard from Horicon Post 157 will begin the day by performing memorial services, which will consist of the firing of three volleys and the playing of Taps at the following cemeteries:

-North Burnett, 7 a.m.

-Burnett Corners, 7:20 a.m.

-Stone, 7:40 a.m.

-Sacred Heart. 8 a.m.

-Oak Hill, 8:30 a.m.

The official program will be held at Van Brunt school in the gym beginning at 10 a.m.

The program will feature musical selections performed by the Horicon High School band, a main speaker, speakers from the American Legion Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, the Americanism essay winner and the 2016 Memoriam with Taps.

Upon the completion of the program, a parade will form on Cedar Street and proceed to Kiwanis Park for the traditional river front ceremony.

All those attending are invited to the Horicon Legion Post for refreshments and fellowship upon conclusion of the program. The Post is located across the street from Kiwanis Park. Lomira

The Lomira American Legion post will be hosting several services on Memorial Day at the following locations:

-St. Andrews at 8 a.m.

-St, Lukes in Knowles at 8:15 a.m.

-Mount Pleasant on Hwy 49 in Brownsville at 8:45 a.m.

-Town of Lomira on Hwy 175 at 9:15 a.m.

-Byron Veteran’s Memorial at 9:30 a.m.

-Ebenezer at 10 a.m.

-St. Martin’s in Ashford at 10:15 a.m.

-St. John’s in Lomira at 10:30 a.m.

-Salem in Lomira at 10:45 a.m.

-St Mary’s in Lomira at 11 a.m.

-Wreath laying at the Lomira Village pond at 11:15 a.m.

Mayville

The Mayville American Legion post will be at the following four locations for Memorial Day Services:

-St. Matthew’s Cemetery on Herman Street in Iron Ridge at 8 a.m.

-St. Paul’s Cemetery on Gill Road east of Mayville at 8:30 a.m.

-Kekoskee Cemetery on County Y at 9 a.m.

-Tidyman Cemetery outside of Kekoskee on County YY at 9:20 a.m.

The annual parade will start at 10:30 a.m. at the Veteran’s Memorial in Mayville and a ceremony will start after the parade. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for sitting and an umbrella if it is raining.

Theresa

The American Legion Post 270 of Theresa will conduct several Memorial Day Services at the following cemeteries:

-10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery on Hwy 175

-10:15 a.m. at St. Petri’s Cemetery -10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery -10:45 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Cemetery -11 a.m. at Hochheim Cemetery -11:15 a.m. at Theresa Union Cemetery -11:30 a.m. at Theresa Veterans Memorial -12 p.m. at St. Theresa’s Memorial Gardens -12:15 p.m. the services will end with a bridge ceremony.
