A jealous husband wrote a note saying “karma is a b***h” before he killed his wife and daughter outside a leisure centre in broad daylight.
Lance Hart wrote a lengthy suicide note before hunting down his wife Claire, 50, and their daughter Charlotte, 19.
The 57-year-old shot them both dead before killing himself during the incident in Spalding, a market town in Lincolnshire, this summer.
Claire had left her husband after 26 years together because she could no longer cope with his selfishness.
Enraged Hart is said to have spent the next five days planning his revenge killing.
Making himself a final meal of paella, washed down with wine, on a summer night in his garden, he wrote “Revenge is a dish best served cold” before he killed the pair the following day.
While he wrote that his three children were taking their mother’s side and were conspiring against him, he spared his sons Ryan, 25, and Luke, 26, who were not there on the day.
He knew that his wife and daughter would both be swimming at the leisure centre, so he lay in wait for them in the car park. The shocked leisure centre manager found the two in the car park. Claire had died immediately, but Charlotte was still alive and was able to tell him that her father had shot her before losing her fight to stay conscious.
Charlotte had hoped to become a midwife and was studying at the University of Northampton.
At an inquest into their death’s coroner Paul Cooper said Hart was “cold, calculated and scheming”.
He was described as a bully who had meticulously planned how he would murder his wife and daughter.
Because he was carrying a single barrel shotgun, Hart would have had to repeatedly load it between shots.
The inquest concluded that both Claire and Charlotte were unlawfully killed and Hart’s death was ruled to be suicide.
Summing up his verdict, Mr Cooper said: “He knew exactly what he was going to do. It was a single barrel shotgun, so it was not a question of him just shooting his wife, he then had to unload it, put another cartridge in and shoot it again.
“In my view, this was a cold, calculated, scheming man who went out and deliberately murdered his wife and daughter. If he had lived he would have been charged with murder, unfortunately he didn’t live to face the consequences of his actions. He took his own life.”
